Ayurvedic Treatments For The Body

Body treatments are not only luxurious to receive but are an integral part of Ayurvedic therapy and Panchakarma. Treatments are frequently used in conjunction with diet, herbal therapy, and customized detox to re-balance Doshas. When Doshas are out of balance, illness can ensue. Reestablishing order within the body reduces symptoms and restores well-being.

Shirodhara

Shirodhara involves applying a stream of warm liquid, usually oil, that is often medicated with specifically-chosen herbs, for several minutes. This soothing remedy is effective in relieving insomnia, headaches, and anxiety, and is excellent for the health of the scalp and hair. A full treatment lasts around 1 hour, depending on the ailment.

Netra Basti

Netra Basti is a restorative treatment for the eyes and nervous system. A dam made from flour is placed around the eye orbit and is filled with warm ghee. While the eye is submerged in ghee, the client opens his or her eye and performs various eye exercises. Because the eyes are so closely connected to the brain and the 6th Chakra—The Third Eye or Ajna—most clients find this to be a calm and spiritual experience. Netra Basti is used to provide allergy relief, combat eye strain, soothe dry eyes, and reduce headaches.

Karna Purana

The ears are responsible for receiving sound and equilibrium. When they are dry, itchy or clogged, this can lead to headaches, jaw pain, dizziness, or ringing in the ear. Karna Purana is an Ayurvedic treatment in which warm ghee or oil is placed in the ear canal, and the surrounding face, neck, and shoulders are massaged. Depending on the specific condition, herbs may be added to the oil to create a more therapeutic experience.

Abhyanga

Abhyanga, literally translated as “loving hands”, consists of an organized lymphatic massage using herbalized oils. Abhyanga helps to improve circulation, reduces anxiety, and provides external oleation (lubrication) to the body. It is exceptionally pacifying to Vata Dosha.
